CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
August/September 2011
Welcome on board this flight today.
The world is in the midst of a green-revolution. We are more conscious of the environment and of our actions, which can have either a negative or a positive impact in the world we live in.
The aviation industry is no exception when it comes to exploring ways to cut emissions, save fuel, build more efficient aircraft, and test new bio-fuels. The use of bio-fuels, it is estimated, can reduce the carbon-footprint of fuel by up to 80%. Scientists are working on a number of exciting projects, that will more than likely come to fruition sooner rather than later.
Malabo on the island of Bioko, Equatorial Guinea is a fast developing international market in terms of oil production, as well being a hidden treasure to be explored by the adventure tourist. This is to become Interair South Africa ’s latest destination in the West Africa region. We will be providing connections via the mainland and onto Brazzaville, Pointe Noire and of course our main hub at Johannesburg. May we remind readers that Johannesburg is an extremely convenient gateway to the Asia-Pacific region as well as to South America. O.R. Tambo Airport offers first class facilities and flight connections are more than plentiful.
Recently the 67th IATA Annual General Meeting was held in Singapore. Over 700 delegates from member airlines and partners attended to review challenges and achievements, and discuss future paths for aviation in the global arena. As expected the every increasing fuel price was of concern to all. Developments on the horizon include the use of bio-metrics in order to facilitate a more seamless airport experience for passengers – from arrival at the terminal building to actual take-off. We look forward to this step forward in technology which will benefit everyone, airlines and travelers alike.
We wish you a bon voyage.
